We've all seen things like Meghan McCain only realize maternity leave is important once it affects her, or Dick Cheney only realizing homosexuals deserve rights after a family member comes out.
We also shake our head wondering how Trump supporters don't see that Trump detests them. A crowd full of people making $40,000 a year cheered when Trump insulted Mitt Romney for not being a billionaire (net worth approx. 200 million), not connecting the dots as to where they are in his eyes.
People struggle to understand them, but it's simple. They have a lack of empathy. If you don't feel the pain of a child in a cage, if you don't feel the rage of minorities being oppressed, then you don't feel the cynicism of a liar like Trump.
